Cookie Policy
Cookies are small files that websites can store in your browser. This page explains whether The Tech Stream uses them.
In short
The website's own code does not set or read cookies, so there is no cookie banner. It does save one appearance setting, your light or dark theme, in your browser's local storage if you choose a theme. If you answer a question in the homepage quiz, it also keeps a short list of question codes in your browser's session storage until you close the tab. Local storage and session storage are not cookies, but they are similar technologies, so they are explained below.
What we checked
- The pages contain no code that creates or reads cookies.
- The only browser storage used is
localStorage, for the theme preference, andsessionStorage, for the homepage quiz, both described below. The site does not use any other browser storage. - The contact page does not start a session.
- There are no analytics tools, advertising, social media widgets or embedded videos.
- Fonts, images and scripts are served from the site itself, not from third-party services.
Theme preference (local storage)
The header has a switch for a light or dark appearance. When you use it, the site saves your choice in your browser's local storage.
- What is stored: the word “light” or “dark”, under the name
tech-stream-theme. - Why: so your chosen appearance is remembered across pages and visits. It is not used to identify or track you.
- When: only after you use the switch. If you never use it, nothing is stored and the site shows its default dark theme.
- Where it goes: it stays on your device. Unlike cookies, local storage is not sent to the web server with each page request, and the site's own theme code does not send it anywhere.
- How long: the site sets no expiry, so it stays until you change it or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
- Changing or removing it: use the switch again, or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Whether storing this setting needs a notice or consent under UK rules has not been confirmed and is to be reviewed before launch. No cookie banner has been added.
Homepage quiz (session storage)
The “Test Your Tech Knowledge” quiz on the homepage picks three questions at random. So that a new attempt is likely to ask different questions, the quiz remembers which questions it has asked.
- What is stored: a short list of question codes, such as
“iot-1”, in your browser's session storage, under the name
techstream-quiz-recent. Your answers, your score and any personal details are not stored. - When: only after you check your first answer in the quiz. If you never answer a question, nothing is stored.
- Where it goes: it stays on your device. The quiz code does not send it anywhere.
- How long: the browser clears session storage when you close the tab or window.
- Removing it: close the tab, or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Whether this needs a notice or consent under UK rules has not been confirmed and is to be reviewed before launch, together with the theme preference above.
What your browser may still do
Browsers normally keep temporary copies of a site's files, such as images and stylesheets, to load pages faster. This is not a cookie and is not used to identify you. Settings and extensions in your own browser are outside this site's control.
Other websites
Some articles link to other websites. If you follow those links, those sites may set their own cookies. Please see their policies.
What this page does not cover
This page describes the website's own code. How the site will be hosted has not yet been established, so anything set by a hosting service is not described here. This will be checked before launch.
If this changes
If cookies, analytics or similar tools are added in future, this policy will be updated, and where required a choice will be offered before they are used. See also the Privacy Policy.
