Privacy Policy
This policy explains in plain language what the website does with personal information. It is based on what the website's code actually does.
In short
- The site has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking scripts.
- The site's own code does not set cookies. If you choose a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage. See Your theme preference and the Cookie Policy.
- The homepage quiz keeps a short list of question codes in your browser's session storage if you answer a question. See Homepage quiz.
- The only way to send information is the contact form, which is not yet connected to email or storage. Messages sent through it are not delivered to anyone.
- Pages do not load fonts, scripts or images from third-party services.
Who is responsible
The Tech Stream does not yet publish who is responsible for the site, or a contact address for privacy questions. These details need to be added before the site launches publicly.
Information you give us: the contact form
The contact form asks for your name, email address and a message. Here is what happens, step by step:
- When you press Send Message, your browser sends these three entries to the website's server,
so the page
contact.phpcan process them. - The page checks that all three boxes are filled in, and displays a notice. It also puts your entries back into the form on the screen.
- The site's code does not send your entries by email, save them to a database or a file, or write them to a log.
In other words, the information is sent to the server to be processed, but the site's code does not keep or forward it. Because the form is not connected, your message is not delivered, so please do not rely on it to contact us and do not send anything sensitive through it.
What this policy does not cover
This policy covers the website's own code only. How the site will be hosted, and what the hosting service itself processes or records, has not yet been established, so it is not described here. This will be added before launch.
Information collected automatically
The website's pages do not run analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and the site's own code does not set cookies. The only things the site stores in your browser are your theme choice, if you use the switch, and a short list of question codes for the homepage quiz, if you answer a question. Both are described below. Fonts, images and scripts are served from the site itself.
Your theme preference
The site has a switch in the header for choosing a light or dark appearance. When you use that switch, the
site saves your choice (the word “light” or “dark”) in your browser's
local storage, under the name tech-stream-theme. This is only so the site can
remember your appearance setting as you move between pages and when you come back.
- Nothing is saved until you use the switch. If you never use it, the site shows its default dark theme and stores nothing.
- The site's own theme code keeps this setting on your device and does not send it anywhere.
- You can change it at any time with the switch, or remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Whether storing this kind of setting needs a notice or consent under UK rules has not been confirmed and is to be reviewed before launch. No cookie banner has been added.
Homepage quiz
The “Test Your Tech Knowledge” quiz on the homepage chooses three questions at random. After
you check your first answer, it saves a short list of the questions it has asked, as codes such as
“iot-1”, in your browser's session storage under the name
techstream-quiz-recent, so that a new attempt is likely to ask different questions.
- Your answers, your score and any personal details are not stored.
- Nothing is saved if you do not answer a question.
- The list stays on your device, is not sent anywhere by the quiz code, and is cleared by the browser when you close the tab or window. See the Cookie Policy.
Links to other websites
Some articles link to other websites, including technology organisations, research institutions, standards bodies, regulators and publishers. Those sites have their own privacy and cookie practices, which we do not control.
Your choices
Because the site's code does not keep contact-form entries, there is nothing stored by the site's code to access, correct or delete. A way to make privacy requests, and the details of any rights that apply, need to be added before launch, once it is clear who is responsible for the site.
Changes to this policy
If the site starts collecting or sharing information in a new way, for example by connecting the contact form to email or adding analytics, this policy will be updated first. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
